The centre of Kurtatsch lies at around 333 metres above sea level, while its hamlets of Penon, Graun and Entiklar stretch up the sun-drenched slopes above the Adige Valley. More than 300 days of sunshine a year and the mild climate provide ideal conditions for growing grapes, fruit and even olives.
Despite this, Kurtatsch has retained the charm and character of a small village. Inns, pizzerias, shops, a bank, post office and pharmacy can all be found in the village centre – within easy walking distance of the Lindenhof.
And Kurtatsch is only the beginning. The surrounding area is dotted with small wine villages, each of which has retained its own distinct character. Historic village centres, vineyards and a southern way of life make the immediate surroundings well worth exploring.

Wine villages between Bolzano and the language border
Some of the best-known wine villages in southern South Tyrol are located around Kurtatsch. Margreid nestles beneath the cliffs of Fennberg, Kurtinig lies amidst extensive orchards and vineyards, while Tramin – the home of Gewürztraminer – can even be reached via a walking trail that passes directly by the Lindenhof. Kaltern is also just a short distance away.
On the other side of the Adige, Auer, Montan, Neumarkt with its historic arcades, and Salurn in the far south of South Tyrol are all waiting to be discovered..
